We are a bunch of artists and designers smitten by fresh-water ornamental dwarf shrimp and the hobby they’ve inspired.
Based out of beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Ebiphany is our celebration of the virtuous “shrimp keeper” in all of us. Our desire is to shine a light on the wonders of shrimp keeping through original artwork, quirky design, and thoughtfully crafted products.
Playfully combining the Japanese word for shrimp (ebi) with an ancient-ish term meaning “revelation” or “manifestation” (epiphany), Ebiphany is constantly inspired by what this unconventional, aquatic hobby reveals: the presence of beauty in the mundane and the often insignificant, the virtue of patience and perseverance, the disciplines of caring for nature, the reward of noticing fine detail, the value of community… Perhaps even the nature of reality, and the meaning of life!
It is, indeed, as 18th-century English painter, printmaker, and poet William Blake suggests in his poem “Auguries of Innocence” — it is possible,
To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.
We sincerely hope the “ebiphanies” we've been gifted through our passion for shrimp will shine through our products.
